The Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health of Denmark Per Okkels received the Ambassador of Cuba in that country, Yiliam Gómez, at the headquarters of that institution. They exchanged about possibilities to develop future bilateral projects of collaboration in the health sector.
The diplomat referred to the Cuban health system and the health indicators achieved by her country which are comparable to those of developed countries, despite the negative impact and the effects caused by the blockade policy imposed by the US government. She also presented some of the leading products produced by the Cuban biotechnology industry, including Heberprot P for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and the CIMAvax-EGF vaccine against lung cancer, respectively.
Okkels was interested in the information provided, while recognizing the levels of education on the Island that have contributed to obtain the aforementioned achievements.
The Cuban Ambassador conveyed her country's will to encourage commercial ties between the parties in areas of common interest, especially after the provisional entry into force of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the European Union on November 1, 2017, which has already been ratified by Denmark.
