On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the October Crisis, Pathfinder Books Montreal held the presentation of the books “Haciendo Historia” (Interviews with four generals of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces) and October 1962 La crisis de los misiles vista desde Cuba by Tomás Diez Acosta. In this public meeting a panel was held where the three speakers presented their analysis from different perspectives and then a pleasant exchange took place with the participants.
To illustrate the context in 1962 surrounding the Cuban Revolution, the aggressions of the United States and the role of the then Soviet Union, retired professor of Latin American History, Claude Morin, gave a chronology of the events that led to the October Crisis.
The Consul General in Montreal, Susana Malmierca Benítez, said that the unity of the Cuban people, their resilience and their will to protect the country's sovereignty and independence were and are today key factors in defending the country, preserving its achievements and not succumbing to threats.
For his part, Philippe Tessier of the Pathfinder Books Publishing House highlighted the main lessons learned from the events of that era and their impact today.
The immense admiration of those present for the Revolution and its invincible people was evident, as well as their interest in deepening their knowledge of Cuban history.
