President of Finland receives Credentials from the new Ambassador of Cuba

Helsinki, November 28th, 2017. The President of the Republic of Finland, His Excellency Sauli Niinistö, received on Tuesday, in a solemn audience held at the Presidential Palace, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, Mr. Eduardo Lazo Pérez, who presented the Letters of Credence that accredit him in those functions.

During the meeting, the Cuban diplomat thanked the vote of Finland in favor of the resolution approved on November 1st by the United Nations General Assembly on the need to end the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States against Cuba.

Both interlocutors coincided in highlighting the positive development of bilateral ties. At the same time they demonstrated the will to further increase those relations. The Finnish President availed the opportunity to express his condolences for the losses caused by Hurricane Irma, which hit the Caribbean island last September.

During the exchange, the sympathy that Cuba arouses in thousands of Finnish tourists who visit the island every year was also pointed out. The Ambassador stressed that with the forthcoming opening in December of regular flights Helsinki-Habana by Finnair, the principal airline of the Nordic country, the number of travellers will surely be increased (Report: Embassy of Cuba in Finland).
