The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Dr. Thomas Mitdoahae Thabane, received today in the city of Maseru the Cuban Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson.
The Basotho dignitary highlighted the role played by Cuba in the struggles of the African peoples for their independence and reiterated the firm support of his country to the battle of the Cuban people and government against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government.
He thanked Cuba for its valuable assistance to the African Kingdom in the field of health, particularly the work carried out by the Brigade of Cuban doctors who remain in the country and who are contributing to the improvement of health indicators, which has deserved the affection and appreciation of the Basotho people. He also highlighted the help that Cuba provides in the training of young professionals in the country on the Caribbean island, in various specialties.
The Cuban ambassador, for his part, thanked the warm welcome offered by the country's authorities and reiterated Cuba's commitment and willingness to maintain and continue to expand bilateral collaboration in various areas, including education, sports and physical education.
The opportunity also served to update the Prime Minister on the current situation of Cuba, and to exchange on other issues of common interest on the bilateral and international agenda.
