Secretary General of the Communist Party of Ireland holds fraternal meeting with ICAP representative.

Dublin, May 19, 2022: The Secretary General of the Communist Party of Ireland, Eugene McCartan, received today at the Party headquarters, Elizabeth Ribalta Rubiera, official of the European Division of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) who visits the country. In the fraternal meeting, the companion transmitted the greeting of the President of ICAP, Fernando González Llort, Hero of the Republic of Cuba.

He also provided an overview of the country's progressive recovery after suffering the pandemic and the consequences of the tightening of the blockade in recent years. On this last issue, he delivered to the Secretary General of the Party, a detailed account of each of the measures adopted by the Administration of former President Donald Trump against Cuba, in the economic, commercial and financial spheres. He also thanked the Communist Party and the solidarity movement for their permanent support of the Cuban Revolution.

For his part, Eugene reiterated the principled position of the Irish Communist Party to defend Cuba and its Revolution, as well as its absolute rejection of the blockade against the Island. He reciprocated the greeting of the President of ICAP and expressed his desire to visit the Pearl of the Antilles.

The Cuban ambassador to Ireland, Bernardo Guanche Hernández, and the National Coordinator of the Solidarity Forum with Cuba, Marie Barry, were present at the meeting.
