Zagreb, January 21. The Socialist Workers Party of Croatia (SRP) issued a statement condemning the United States for the recent reintroduction of Cuba on the List of State Sponsors of Terrorism, and demanding, in turn, the definitive end of the inhumane economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed against our country.
The communiqué expresses that the decision, taken by Donald Trump's administration at the very beginning of his mandate, represents an unjust and politically motivated measure directed against the sovereignty of the Cuban people and their right to independent development.
The SRP regretted this unfounded decision to present Cuba as a terrorist state when at the international level the island has been known for many years as a promoter of international cooperation, health care and the struggle for social justice, especially through the sending of medical teams to numerous countries affected by crises around the world.
The communiqué condemns the continuation of the blockade, which it describes as one of the most lasting and inhumane examples of collective punishment of a country in modern history.
Finally, the text points out that the Socialist Workers Party of Croatia expresses its solidarity with the people of Cuba and its Revolution and calls on the international community, including the institutions of the United Nations, to condemn these unjust measures. Furthermore, it calls on the institutions of the European Union to clearly express their disagreement with this policy and to adopt an active stance against the economic blockade of Cuba.
“We are convinced that the Cuban people, guided by the principles of solidarity, justice and sovereignty, will succeed in overcoming these challenges, as they have done in the past. The SRP stands with Cuba in the struggle against imperialist aggression and for a just world, free of hegemony and blackmail,” the communiqué concludes.
The Socialist Workers Party of Croatia was established on October 25, 1997 and has maintained its solidarity with Cuba throughout these years.
