Solidarity of the AKEL Party of Cyprus after the passage of Hurricane Irma.
Cyprus. September 15. In a fraternal message sent to Castro Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, Andros Kyprianou, General Secretary of the AKEL Party, expressed the unreserved solidarity of the political organization and of the Cypriots with the people, the party and the government of Cuba, after the passage of Hurricane Irma.
The message affirms that “the enormous catastrophe that almost the whole country has suffered, the material destruction in different sectors, in the electricity network and in agricultural production, but also in housing, is unprecedented”. At the same time, it expresses its condolences for the loss of lives in spite of the immense efforts of the Cuban state.
By ensuring the readiness of AKEL and the Cypriot solidarity movement to undertake initiatives to carry out practical actions in assisting the Cuban people in order to help overcome the consequences of this natural disaster, Kyprianou expressed his conviction that the cuban people with the fighting spirit and the feelings of solidarity that characterize it, will overcome this new and hard test period.
