Pretoria, October 29, 2024 - The world will soon vote for the 33rd time on the Cuban resolution calling for an end to the blockade and unilateral sanctions imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years. Every year, the United Nations holds this vote, which shows that Cuba is not alone.
There have been many international expressions of solidarity and support for Cuba and its people. South Africa has been no exception. Friends of Cuba have reiterated on numerous occasions their firm position of support for the island in the just struggle it is waging against imperialism.
Recently, the Association of Friendship with Cuba and the Association of Graduates published strong statements reaffirming this support, showing the solidarity of the South African people with Cuba and condemning the longest blockade ever applied in history, as well as the island's continued inclusion on the unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism. These messages encourage Cubans and confirm that they´re not alone, that the one who is isolated is the one who subjugates them.
