South Africa's Deputy Minister of DIRCO commemorates Cuban Moncada heroism

Pretoria, 26 July 2024 - South Africa's Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Alvin Botes, dedicated an emotional article to the 71st anniversary of the attack on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, published in the African National Congress-ANC magazine, in which he reflected on the 26 July Movement, cooperation between Cuba and the African continent, relations with South Africa and the blockade against the island.

In his words, the Deputy Minister paid tribute to the Cuban people for the rebelliousness and courage they showed in this action, with the sole aim of achieving definitive independence, overthrowing Batista's tyranny and being free from the imperialist yoke once and for all.

He also recalled how the Caribbean island has offered its solidarity and cooperation to the African peoples, in the form of health professionals, education, public works, water resources and many other fields, despite being victim of a criminal and genocidal blockade that has suffocated the Cuban people for more than 60 years. At the same time, he condemned the nation's presence on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, a list Cuba should have never been on.
