On the occasion of the 97th anniversary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, the Cuban Embassy organized a soccer match, along with members of the Solidarity Committee in India and the diplomatic corps accredited in New Delhi.
Among those present were the Cuban Ambassador to India, Alejandro Simancas; B. V. Raghavulu, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), diplomats from the Embassies of Venezuela, Argentina and Bolivia; as well as Indian youth and students.
At the inauguration of the party, B. V. Raghavulu highlighted the figure of Fidel as an inspiration for those who fought for just causes in his country. Likewise, the secretary general of the All India Peace and Solidarity Organization (AIPSO), Arun Kumar, highlighted the humanist qualities and devotion to internationalism of the Cuban revolutionary leader.
For his part, Ambassador Alejandro Simancas highlighted the fundamental role of Fidel Castro in the establishment of relations between the peoples of Cuba and India, which have been characterized by friendship and solidarity for more than 60 years. He also recalled that next September 11 will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Fidel's first visit to India. Finally, he considered the celebration of the soccer match as an opportunity to share among friends and continue strengthening our ties.
At the same time, a women's basketball match was held in the state of Kerala, organized by organizations friendly to Cuba, in commemoration of Fidel's birthday.
