St. Vincent and the Grenadines celebrates National Hero's Day.

Kingstown, March 14. In the presence of Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, Lieutenant Governor Dawn Smith, the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the island and important government and society officials, National Hero's Day was celebrated this morning.

At the Obelisk erected in honor of Joseph Chatoyer, who fell fighting for the independence of St. Vincent and the Grenadines against the British colonialists on a day like today in 1795, in his closing remarks, the Head of Government highlighted different episodes of his struggles and the enduring example that the legacy of the Vincentian National Hero constitutes for all Vincentians and Caribbean people.

At the end of the ceremony and on behalf of the Cuban people, the Ambassador to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, José M. Leyva Ventura, laid a wreath at the Obelisk that commemorates his memory.
