Strengthening Ties: Cuban Foreign Minister Holds Fruitful Meeting with Cuban Community and Friends of Cuba in Nigeria.

Abuja, March 16, 2025 – As part of his official visit to Nigeria, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla held an emotional and fruitful meeting this Sunday with Cubans residing in Nigeria, a representative of Nigerian students who graduated in Cuba, and members of the solidarity movement with the island.

During the exchange, the Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude for the ongoing support of the Cuba solidarity movements present in Nigeria for the Cuban people's struggle to eliminate the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, as well as for their firm stance in favor of removing Cuba from the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism. He also highlighted the fundamental role of the Cuba solidarity movement in Nigeria, which has unconditionally supported the island's just causes and promoted brotherhood between the two peoples.

 

In his conversation with Cubans living in Nigeria, Rodríguez Parrilla provided an update on the current situation in Cuba, marked by economic challenges and the impact of the blockade, but also by new opportunities for growth and development. In this regard, he explained the recent measures implemented by the Cuban government that allow for greater participation of Cubans living abroad in the national economy, as well as the desire to continue strengthening ties with the thousands of compatriots living outside the island.

The meeting also provided a space for exchanging experiences with Nigerian students who graduated in Cuba, who shared their experiences in the Caribbean nation and expressed their deep gratitude to the Cuban government and people for the opportunity to train as professionals in various disciplines. With great emotion, many of them recalled their time at Cuban universities, highlighting the values ​​of solidarity, brotherhood, and humanism they learned on the island and which they now apply in their professional and personal lives.

This emotional meeting served to further strengthen the historical ties and cooperation between Cuba and Nigeria, reaffirming the commitment to continue strengthening bilateral relations. The day concluded with mutual recognition of the importance of solidarity and unity as fundamental principles in building a more just and equitable world.
