Kuala Lumpur, 24 June, 2023.- The Annual General Meeting of Friends of Cuba Association in Malaysia, FOCA, took place this Saturday, June 24.
The meeting was chaired by Fahmy Khai, president of FOCA and had as a special guest the Ambassador of Cuba to Malaysia, Florentino Batista González.
In his speech as an honorary member of Friends of Cuba, Ambassador Florentino Batista González remarked that efforts must continue to bring new members to the organization, as well as to promote Cuba in this part of the world.
Batista González also referred to the importance of the young Malaysian doctors graduated in Cuba joining the organization, since they are the best ambassadors of our country in Malaysia.
Finally, the Cuban diplomat spoke about the plans for the second semester of the year and called on FOCA to join those activities, among which he highlighted the Day of Cuban Culture and the upcoming Latin American Festival of Penang.
During this occasion, the work of several years of Mr. Charles Morera was appreciated, who served as Secretary of the organization until today and who retires from his position due to health problems but who will remain a member of FOCA.
In addition, a minute of silence was observed in the Assembly as a tribute to Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, Chairman of the Association, who recently passed away.
