Toronto celebrated the 22nd Annual Day of Friendship with Cuba

Toronto, August 21st, 2017. The 22nd edition of the Toronto-Cuba Friendship Day was held at Nathan Philips Square of Toronto´s City Hall. The event was organized by the Canadian-Cuban Friendship Association in Toronto (CCFA-Toronto), the Association of Cuban Residents in Toronto "Juan Gualberto Gomez" and the Latin American and Caribbean Solidarity Network.

The celebration was attended by Councillor Anthony Perruzza, who in his speech read a greeting message from the Mayor John Tory of Ontario for this celebration. On the other hand David Warner, Honorary President of CCFA Toronto and former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, Elizabeth Hill, President of Canadian –Cuban Friendship Association of Toronto and Julio Fonseca, President of the Cuban Association, referred in their speeches to the friendship ties between Cuban and Canadian people and the significant achievements of cooperation. The event was also attended by Professor, Keith Ellis and Consul General of Grenada, Derrick James, among others.

Cuban Consul Susana Malmierca was the main speaker of the event. She expressed sincere appreciation for the solidarity and friendship with Cuba in Canada. She referred to the celebration of 72 years of continued diplomatic relations between both countries and stressed the many other important links like culture, commerce,  sports, tourism between the two people.Also present, Cuban Consul Ingrid Izquierdo among other officials of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission.

A large representation of Cuban residents, Canadians in solidarity and general public, who were in the central square, enjoyed a large sample of Cuban cuisine. They were enlivened by the Master Rumbero, Joaquin Nuñez Hidalgo, the renowned pianist Hilario Duran and group Son Cuba, which offered a wide repertoire of Cuban themes.
