Tribute to José Martí in Athens

Athens, May 18. José Martí was honored in the 124 anniversaries of its fall in combat at an event organized by the Embassy of Cuba in Greece at the monument of the Apostle in a Central Athens square. Solidarity friends’ representatives of the Cuban Hellenic Association of friendship and the Jose Marti Cultural Association of solidarity with Cuba deposited a wreath at the monument. Then the Ambassador of Cuba in Greece Zelmys Maria Dominguez Cortina said a few words about the importance of the national hero of Cuba whose thinking is in force today more than ever in the heroic struggle of the Cuban people to defend the revolution, and even more in moments in which deepening the U.S. blockade and hostile measures against Cuba and Venezuela, to whose people the ambassador reiterated the solidarity of the Cuban people.

Then, took the floor a representative of the José Martí Cultural Association of solidarity with Cuba and another of Cuban Hellenic Association of friendship, highlighting the figure of Martí, and the permanent solidarity of their organizations with the struggle of the Cuban people.

At the ceremony were present Latin American ambassadors, representatives of different political forces, from associations of solidarity, several sectors of Greek society and Cubans residing in the country. At the end a collective photo was taken in front of the monument to the Apostle and it happened a special moment with some of the children that were present, which as Marti, said, "are the hope of the world".
