Tribute to José Martí in Saint Lucia

Castries, January 30, 2019.The Cuban State Mission in Saint Lucia, headed by Ambassador Alejandro Simancas, paid tribute to our National Hero on the 166th Anniversary of his birth.  In a simple but emotional ceremony, the members of the mission, composed of Cuban Diplomats, the Medical Brigade and collaborators from the sectors of Construction and Sports laid a floral arrangement in front of the bust of José Martí near the Embassy of Cuba in this country.  Doctor Orquídea Piñero highlighted in her speech the guidance and example of Marti in the daily work of the Cuban Collaborators in Saint Lucia while Dr. Geovanis Emilio Pompa read a poem that he wrote, inspired by the work and values of our Apostle. Also present were members of the Humanistic Solidarity Association (Saint Lucia – Cuba), headed by its President Marlene Alexander. In representing the Association, Peter Lansiquot, a Saint Lucian who graduated in Cuba, recognized the symbolism of the figure of Jose Marti and his transcendence throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
