The U.S. blockade against Cuba is the greatest obstacle for the development of the island and a systematic violation of the human rights of the people, said Prime Minister Manuel Marrero today.
Speaking at the World Summit of Governments, which is taking place in Dubai, Marrero assured that in spite of all the challenges posed by the economic, commercial and financial siege, the Caribbean nation will continue to carry out the necessary transformations to the economy and society.
He expressed the gratitude of the largest of the Antilles for the solidarity of the peoples and governments of the world in the struggle against the blockade, which has been imposed on his country for more than 60 years.
The head of government explained that the island is working on strengthening the public business system, increasing agricultural production, diversifying economic actors with the creation of more than 10,000 micro, small and medium-sized private enterprises.
He added that a broad legislative update is also being carried out as part of the implementation of the Government's projections to correct distortions and re-drive the economy and "in this way we are getting out of the complex situation we are going through".
Likewise, he added, social innovation policies are being developed to increase popular participation in the conduct of public affairs in order to fight inequalities and promote greater social justice.
Marrero pointed out that his country has the absolute conviction that it will not be possible to advance towards a sustainable model, in harmony with nature, without promoting international solidarity as a human right.
"There can be no serious talk of technological advances or equitable access to communications when more than 84 million children are still out of school and more than 660 million people do not have electricity," he said.
The Prime Minister invited to work for a world of peace that allows the full development of societies.
He stressed that the Cuban government will continue to promote solidarity, complementarity, cooperation and dialogue among peoples "to demonstrate that a better world is possible".
