Vienna, March 13, 2024. The Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Cuba, Pilar Varona Estrada, arrived in Vienna to lead the Cuban delegation to the Sixty-Seventh Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs.

The Deputy Minister of Justice was received by Pablo Berti Oliva, Ambassador of Cuba to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Organizations in Vienna, who updated her on the work of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), on the schedule of the High-Level Segment and the Commission's agenda, as well as on the objectives proposed for the Cuban delegation.

On this occasion, the Commission will hold a High-Level Segment (March 14-15) and the regular session (March 18-22). The ministerial segment will aim to take stock of the implementation of the commitments made by the international community in the 2019 Ministerial Declaration to address and counter the global drug problem.

Vice Minister Varona Estrada will address the Ministerial Segment on the afternoon of Thursday, March 14, and will carry out an intense work program during the session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs. The occasion will be an opportunity to highlight Cuba's positions in the fight against the scourge of drugs, including its zero-tolerance policy on drugs.

The Cuban delegation also includes the head of the anti-drug directorate of the Technical Department of Investigations of the Ministry of the Interior, Colonel Juan Carlos Poey, and other officials of the Permanent Mission of Cuba in Vienna.
