The Hague, May 27, 2024. On this Monday afternoon, the Cuban ambassador Anet Pino Rivero, together with colleagues from the Diplomatic Mission, visited the community project developed by the Buurtzorg Nurses Foundation, in the Fruits Neighborhood, in the municipality of Leiden.
They were received by the nurses and leaders of the program, Hanneke van der Veen, Margit Sprokkreeff and Trudy Versluys, who offered a broad explanation about the Vitality Club, the structure of this community project and the different activities they carry out to help elderly people who live alone, education and prevention actions, as well as social reintegration.
Professor Dr. David van Bodegom, from the University of Leiden, also joined the exchange and offered an overview of the development of this type of projects in more than 30 cities in the country, all of them inspired by the primary care model and the prevention approach of the Cuban Health System.
The Ambassador offered a detailed explanation about the Cuban health system and the willingness to continue cooperating and motivating the academic exchange that has allowed the development of this type of projects. She also refered the challenges that the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States imposes on the Cuban Health System and the development of the country in general.
