NANCY MOREJON -- the outstanding Afro-Cuban poet and intellectual-- is one of the greatest daughters of our Caribbean Civilization.
And so, when the organizers of France's internationally acclaimed poetry festival -- "Le Marche de la Poesie (The Poetry Market) -- inexcusably and unconscionably withdrew the invitation that they had extended to Nancy to be this year's honorary President of the Festival, they were directing their insult not merely to Nancy alone, but to all of us Caribbean people !
The rude and unceremonious withdrawal of the invitation to this Cuban cultural icon was motivated by Imperialism's longstanding campaign to stigmatize, isolate and subvert a nation that we Caribbean people consider to be a star in our Caribbean firmament.
It is part and parcel of their tawdry and dishonorable effort to tarnish a remarkable revolutionary process -- the Cuban Revolution-- that we Caribbean people proudly consider to be one of our greatest achievements and a cornerstone of our Caribbean Civilization.
And so, I know that I speak for all patriotic and right thinking Caribbean citizens when I say that we denounce the unprincipled and uncouth French establishment forces that own and control this now thoroughly discredited French Poetry Market.
Indeed, we Caribbean people feel entitled to declare to the world that any Poetry Festival that is capable of rejecting and insulting a poet of the brilliance and integrity of a Nancy Morejon has demonstrated that it is unworthy of the respect or support of all right thinking people, of all nationalities.
Please have no doubt Sister Nancy that the masses of the Caribbean people stand with you !
And we urge you to keep on writing and chanting your revolutionary Caribbean lyrics.
Keep on denouncing their racism and their crimes as you recently did so movingly in your poetic tribute to George Floyd :--
"Here lies George Floyd.
His body will become a tree
that will grow in the middle of the woods,
in the roar of dawn
and the serenity of night.
Those leaves will not fall into a void.
Those leaves, in their ritual foliage,
will fall towards their ancestors' mainland,
sown by hope and ferns,
in the candid domain,
in the entire planet
that will have changed
for the good
of another possible world"
Yes Sister Nancy, we stand with you ! We stand with you as you uncompromisingly defend your Cuban homeland and its great revolutionary heroes :--
"Fidel owns a fortune,
just one fortune :
To be,
among us,
for a better world.
Such big fortune.
Fidel,
without hate or bile,
opens walls
and windows.
Fidel
Yes, Fidel has a fortune,
just one fortune,
the fortune of being
Fidel."
Long live the revolutionary art and spirit of our Nancy Morejon !
