Namibia, May 3rd, 2019- The weekly newspaper Windhoek Observer published an interview with the Deputy Head of Mission Aldo Fuentes about the Constitutional Reform carried out in Cuba between 2018 and 2019.
The Cuban diplomatic explained the development of the process since its beginning, when the National Assembly approved the Draft Constitution, including the extensive debates on the text held by the Cuban population, the vote in referendum and until its conclusion with the approval by the Parliament of the amended text and its entry into force on April 10.
Fuentes referred to the more than 133 thousand meetings held by the Cuban people, from which 760 changes emerged in 113 articles of the proposed text. He also highlighted the deep democratic bases of this process, where all articles could be subject to proposals.
He explained the main changes included in the new constitution, with respect to the one approved in 1976 and some of the aspects that remain immovable. In this sense, he delved into changes in the governance structure and how these will eliminate bureaucratic mechanisms and expedite decision-making. He also stressed that the Cuban people decided again to continue with the construction of Socialism.
The Cuban representative highlighted the results of the referendum, which showed the support of the Cuban people to the new Magna Carta and, therefore, to the Revolution.
