As part of an initiative of the Montreal Centre for International Studies, in collaboration with the School of Languages of the University of Quebec in Montreal, an event titled "Women, Languages and Diplomatic Careers" was held today.
Susana Malmierca and Luz Stella Jara, consuls general of Cuba and Colombia, respectively, participated as special guests and speakers.
The opportunity was favorable to share diplomatic work experiences carried out by both women from a gender perspective, as well as to highlight the main achievements of the two countries regarding the participation of women in foreign service.
The importance of mastering other languages when serving abroad was also emphasized, mainly from the empathy and responsiveness that diplomatic officials assume in their work of serving their conationals and foreign citizens interested in various issues.
Those attending the event had the opportunity to meetwith the guests and enjoy a rich debate related to the topic. Other members of the consular corps attended the meeting.
