The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel DíazCanel spoke last Thursday, via video message, at the ceremony of the inauguration of the Cuban presidency of the Group of 77+China for the year 2023, which took place at the UN headquarters in New York

The head of state stressed that Havana assumes this responsibility with the will to work on the common objectives of the countries that make up this bloc of political agreement, the largest in the United Nations.

This is the first time Cuba will chair this negotiating group, and among the purposes is to promote the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and foster international solidarity and cooperation in the postpandemic context.

One week after a Cuban delegation visited Grenada, Prime Minister Hon Dickon Mitchell travelled to Cuba to participate in and deliver his maiden address at the XXII ALBA-TCP Summit.

 At the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America – Peoples Trade Treaty (ALBATCP) summit, the prime minister implored upon his regional colleagues to partner in boosting regional development and trade. This is needed in the region, as countries are impacted by inflation, disrupted supply chains and the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is my great honour to address this, the 22nd ALBA-TCP Summit on behalf of the Government and people of Grenada.

I am especially pleased to be in Havana for the first time and I must express sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Cuba for the warm hospitality extended to my delegation and for the care taken to plan and host this meeting.

As I wrap up my trilogy on the real insensitive attitude of the United States administration against the people of the Republic of Cuba, I am under no illusion that it was an epic gem of literature but I do hope that it has helped a few people to commit to researching and investigating the grim reality of this long-sustained embargo, the reason for it and the fact that the majority of the world opposes it.
