The Cuban collaborators working in Saint Lucia, belonging to the Medical Brigade, the Henry Reeve Brigade, UNECA and Cubadeportes have issued a statement in light of what they consider the recent "actions promoted by the United States Government and citizens in this country to provoke a "soft blow" in our homeland".
The Honorable Allen Chastanet, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, spoke at the VII Cuba Caricom Summit, which was held virtually on December 8. “Commendably, the Government of Cuba has been at the fore-front in providing assistance on a global scale in fighting COVID-19.” On last March, the Henry Reeve Brigade, composed of 113 healthcare professionals, arrived on island to assist Saint Lucia in combatting COVID -19. “These medical professionals have provided invaluable service to Saint Lucia and we were very pleased to have received them”.
STATEMENT BY THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OECS Dr. DIDACUS JULES AT VII CUBA-CARICOM SUMMIT 8th December 2020. On behalf of the OECS Commission, it is my duty to convey our deepest appreciation, our profound solidarity with the Cuban Revolution – I know that in diplomatic circles one sometimes speaks euphemistically and that solidarity is sometimes expressed to the “Government and People” but today we need to emphasize that solidarity with the Cuban Revolution. Because it is the fact of revolution in Cuba that enabled the Cuban people to free themselves of the shackles of illiteracy, to achieve one of the highest human development indexes in the so-called Third World, to become a global medical superpower, to unflinchingly support the Anti-Apartheid struggle and shed its own blood on many continents that the independence and sovereignty of the rainbow races of the world can find their equal place in the Sun.
The HSA joins the Government and People of the Republic of Cuba in paying homage to the memory of the late President, Fidel Castro Ruz, on the 4th Anniversary of his death. It is with profound gratitude that we remember Fidel and Cuba’s past and present innumerable and immeasurable humanitarian actions on the local, regional and international stage.
