The President of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, paid tribute this Wednesday to the National Hero of Cuba José Martí, before the urn that houses his remains in the Santa Ifigenia heritage cemetery in Santiago de Cuba.
Later, the president placed a wreath, "in the name of the people of Namibia", before the monument that houses the ashes of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who founded close ties of friendship between the two nations and with Sam Nujoma, Historical Leader of the sub-Saharan nation.

The highest decoration granted by the Cuban State to fellow nationals and foreigners, the José Martí Order, was delivered yesterday by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, to the president of the Republic of Namibia, Hon. Mr. Dr. Nangolo Mbumba, who is on an official visit to the Island.
The President of the Republic of Namibia, His Excellency. Mr. Dr. Nangolo Mbumba, arrived this Sunday in Cuba on an official visit that will last until December 18.
As part of the program, he will hold official conversations with the President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, meetings with other Cuban authorities and will carry out other activities. On the occasion, the “José Martí Order” will be awarded to him, the highest decoration awarded by the government of the Republic of Cuba. The signing of agreements that will promote bilateral ties is also planned.
