Ottawa, January 28, 2025 - The Cuban flag was raised for the first time at the Ottawa City Hall, seat of the government of the federal capital. This solemn event served to commemorate the 172nd Anniversary of the birth of the National Hero, the 66th Anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution and the 80th Anniversary of bilateral relations with Canada.
As part of the commemorative day for the 172nd anniversary of the birth of the Apostle José Martí, the Cuban community and friends of the Island developed several initiatives in Quebec.
In this regard, a visual artist handed the work entitled “Proyecciones Martianas” (Marti’s Projections). Cubans living in Montreal exposed their considerations about the life and work of the Apostle, a moment that accompanied the image of the woodcut:
Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Cuba rejects the decision announced by the President of the United States to use the Guantanamo Naval Base to imprison tens of thousands of migrants he has proposed to forcibly expel. It is a demonstration of the brutality with which that government is acting to supposedly correct problems created by the economic and social conditions of that country, the government's own management and its foreign policy, including hostility towards countries of origin.
