Solidarity Movement with Cuba in Trinidad and Tobago sets out work program for 2017 in support of Cuba and its Revolution.

Port of Spain, March 23 .- The president of "Friends of Cuba in Trinidad and Tobago" Clyde Callender held a cordial meeting with Guillermo Vázquez Moreno, Cuban ambassador and Alex González García, first secretary of the Embassy, ​​in the which was exchanged ideas and information on several of the activities that the solidarity movement with Cuba organizes for the current year.

 

Cuban connection

The cultural exchange with Cuba and Success Laventille Secondary School has had numerous benefits, not only for the school, but for the students and nation as a whole.

It all began when the school became involved in a pilot music literacy programme supported by Pete the Panstick software where the children leaned to play the tenor pan as well as business and entrepreneur skills. 

 Success Laventille principal Hamida Baksh developed a relationship with Sanch Electronix Ltd, which provided the software, and she approached managing director Simeon Sandiford who had Cuban business connections

Dance - the education connection

The drums of the Yoruba- speaking Okun peoples of Nigeria struck familiar chords throughout an almost capacity foot  tapping Napa rima Bowl auditorium on March 10 when the world famous El Conjunto Folklórico Nacional de Cuba opened the second instalment of its three-show visit.

By then, the well-travelled Cuban dance and music troupe had already left a Port - of- Spain audience in need of more, with a few Naparima Bowl patrons tes tifying to having made a return trip to view the show one last time. It is not known who else would have tailed them to the Shaw Park Complex in Tobago two evenings after.

HAVANA, March 10, 2017. – The Association of Caribbean States (ACS) Secretary General June Soomer called the member states of the association to regroup, develop strategies and move forward. The meeting, in which Cuba will transfer the ACS pro tempore presidency to Venezuela, is taking place at the Habana Libre Tryp hotel of Havana.

Dr. Soomer thanked her ratification as Secretary General of the Association. She said that she will promote good human relations and the excellence to work like a team, and she said that she will give the ACS visibility, since her purpose is to make the people and the governments know the organization.

The ACS Secretary General began her address paying tribute to the former President of Haiti René Preval. She said that the ACS joins the peoples and the governments of the Caribbean to express the deepest condolences for the decease of that great son President Preval was. (Cubaminrex)

CUBA, March 10, 2017 .- The official photo of the twenty second Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), held in Cuba, was taken in front of the famous ‘El carro de la Revolución’ Mural located on the first floor of the Habana Libre Tryp hotel, in the populated Havana’s Vedado neighborhood.

The emblematic work is allegorical to the Cuban Revolution it is composed of 555 hand-made independent pottery parts and then assembled in 1973 in its current location. Its author, the outstanding painter and ceramist Alfredo Sosabravo is one of the 20th century Cuban art avant-garde artists, and he is a National Plastic Arts Prizewinner.

The twenty second Association of Caribbean States Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers, inaugurated in the presence of Cuba’s President Raúl Castro Ruz, has confirmed the steady process of strengthening and dynamism the ACS has been displaying, especially after the 7th Summit, held in June 2016 in Havana, as a space for concerted actions, cooperation and peace for the region.
