Ottawa, October 28, 2022. On the afternoon of Saturday, October 29, the XV National Meeting of Cuban Residents in Canada will be held virtually, as a continuation of the XIV Meeting held in May 2021. Organized on this occasion by Cubans living in Montreal, the event will be able to count on the participation of compatriots living in several cities of the Canadian nation.
The Consul General of Cuba in Toronto was received by Corie McDougall, Assistant Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade of the province of Ontario.
During the meeting, they discussed and agreed on the main ways to expand and diversify trade exchange in areas of mutual interest. The Cuban diplomat also took advantage of the occasion to promote the portfolio of business opportunities in Cuba and to denounce the direct effects of the U.S. blockade on the development of our people.
The Consul General of Cuba in Toronto, Jorge Yanier Castellano, together with his Latin American counterparts, participated in the inauguration of the photographic exhibition: "Retratos Recuperados", dedicated to the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo in Argentina.
Hernán Churba's exhibition is a testimony of the memory and the struggle of the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo, within the framework of the celebrations in Argentina of the National Day of the Right to Identity. It includes eight photographs of grandsons and granddaughters restituted with their grandmothers.
From the headquarters of the Cuban Embassy in Canada, the day of Cuban culture was celebrated, extolling the values and traditions of our nation. The meeting was attended by friends of the island and members of the mission in the northern country.
During the event, homage was paid to the National Poet of Cuba, Nicolás Guillén, and the 154th anniversary of the intonation, for the first time, of the notes of the National Anthem, an event that has transcended to the present day as a symbol of patriotism and Cuban citizenship, was commemorated.
The Canadian city of Toronto dressed up and celebrated the day of Cuban culture in the most important tourist event in this city: "Cuban Única Night", with good music and rich culinary traditions of the Island.
Tourism Counselor Lessner Gomez presented the new attractions and facilities of the Cuban market for the winter season and took the opportunity to thank tour operators, travel agencies and the media for promoting Cuba as a safe tourist destination.
