Statement by the Cuban Ambassador to Canada, Josefina Vidal January 30, 2019
Cuba understands the obligations of the government of Canada to protect its diplomatic personnel posted anywhere in the world and to try to find answers to the health symptoms reported in Cuba, however, it considers that Canada´s decision made public today is incomprehensible.
Cutting Canada´s staff at its Embassy in Cuba and adjusting the mission´s programs are actions that do not help find answers to the health symptoms reported by Canadian diplomats, and which will have an impact on the relations.
Canada attends IV International Conference for World Balance in Havana
Ottawa, January 28.- Canadian intellectuals and friends of Cuba, Arnold August and Keith Ellis, will be representing Canada at the IV International Conference for World Balance, which is being held in Havana from January 28-31, with over 600 delegates from 62 countries attending.
The scientific program of the Conference includes a wide range of spaces to discuss on topics like education.
Cuba strongly rejects the threat to activate Title III of the Helms-Burton act.

On January 16, 2019.- the US State Department announced the decision to suspend, only for 45 days, the implementation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, “in order to conduct a careful review …in light of the national interests of the United States and the efforts to expedite a transition to democracy in Cuba, and include factors such as the Cuba’s regime’s brutal oppression of human rights and fundamental freedoms and its indefensible support for increasingly authoritarian and corrupt regimes in Venezuela and Nicaragua.”
Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in Toronto
Toronto, January 7th, 2019.- Last Saturday, January 5th, in the cosmopolitan city of Toronto, it was celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. The event was organized by the Cuban-Canadian Friendship Association, the Latin American Solidarity Network (LACSN, for its acronym in English), the Association of Cuban Residents in Canada, Juan Gualberto Gómez, the Hugo Chávez Front, the Cultural Group Víctor Jara and the Consulate General of Cuba.
he Steelworkers Hall welcomed more than a hundred Cuban, Latin American and Canadian friends, who have accompanied the just causes of the Cuban Revolution over six decades.
Josefinal Vidal Ferreiro, Ambassador of Cubato Canada, was the main speaker of this event.
Embassy of Cuba in Ottawa Observes 2nd Death Anniversary of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro
Ottawa, November 26, 2018.- The Embassy of Cuba in Ottawa and its Consulate General in Montreal payed tribute to the memory and legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro on the second anniversary of his passing away.
The commemoration ceremony included the screening of the documentary film ´Castro in the Eyes of His Loved Ones´ produced by Radio Canada International in 2015, in which people very close to the leader of the Cuban Revolution shared their memories with such a great human being and statesman.
