We thank you for organizing this urgent debate and in particular the African Group for its leadership in this initiative.

Almost two decades after the Durban World Conference, the scourge of racism, discrimination and xenophobia continues to spread in a world that is increasingly unequal and embroiled in multiple and complex crises.

Cuba sends doctors to Turks and Caicos Islands to deal with Covid-19

Havana, Jun 15 (Prensa Latina) A new Cuban medical brigade, from the Henry Reeve contingent specializing in disaster situations and serious epidemics, arrived today in the British territory of the Turks and Caicos Islands to combat Covid-19.

The Minister of Health and the Deputy Governor of this region welcomed the new group, made up of 20 health professionals, of which 12 are women.

International cooperation does not stop, Eugenio Martinez, director general for Latin America and the Caribbean at the island's Foreign Ministry, said on Twitter as he shared the news.

Cuba and the Kindom of Lesotho celebrate the 41st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations

Pretoria, June 14, 2020.- Today, we celebrate the 41st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the Kingdom of Lesotho. Since the formalization of their ties in 1979, relationships have permanently strengthened on the basis of friendship and cooperation.

We proudly highlight the almost two decades of the Cuban medical cooperation with Lesotho, started in 2002. In that nation African currently serves a Cuban medical brigade which has wide recognition from the authorities and the Kingdom population.

Cuba detects 14 new cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours

Havana, June 13, 2020-- The National Director of Epidemiology of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Francisco Duran, reported that there were 5 new cases detected of COVID-19, for an total of 2,238 positive cases across the island.  

During his daily press briefing held Saturday morning, Dr. Duran said that over the past 24 hours -- up to 12 midnight Friday night -- fortunately, no patients died from the coronavirus.  A total of 84 patients have died from COVID-19 in Cuba over the past several months.

Cuban restarts consular services in several countries

Havana, June 13, 2020.- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez reported on Saturday that the island's Consulates are resuming their services in those countries where health conditions allow it.

The foreign minister said on his Twitter account that in all cases the necessary security measures are taken to avoid contagion with Covid-19.

He indicated that this reopening does not eliminate the extension of the permit to stay abroad to those citizens who, as a result of the pandemic, have not been able to return to their country in 24 months.

Cuban Embassy in Liberia evokes Maceo and Che on the anniversaries of their birthdays.

By chance, they were born on the same date, June 14, although in two different centuries. On this day, 83 years apart, Major General Antonio Maceo was born in 1845 and Major Ernesto Guevara in 1928. One in Santiago de Cuba; the other, in the Argentine city of Rosario. 

Tradition makes this date a day to unite the legacy of two guides, to make the thoughts of these two heroes our own and to search for the essence of their revolutionary thoughts.

Cuban and Venezuelan doctors intensify actions in Nueva Esparta

Isla Margarita, Junio 12, 2020.-Venezuelan health authorities along with the Cuban Medical Mission are deploying several strategies for the epidemiological control of Nueva Esparta state, one of the most affected areas by the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

On Thursday, a special day of research took place in Isla Margarita, hand in hand with the Barrio Adentro Mission, a government program focused on providing free healthcare to thousands of communities throughout the Venezuelan territory and has close cooperation between Cuban and Venezuelan medical personnel.

Cuban Head of Mission participates in virtual meeting with President of Liberia.

Monrovia, June 10, 2020 - Today, the Head of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission in Monrovia, Mercedes L. Martínez Herrera, participated in a virtual meeting with the President of the Republic of Liberia, Dr. George M. Weah.

The meeting was convened by the Liberian Foreign Ministry, which invited the members of the diplomatic corps accredited in the African country.

The topic to be discussed was the impact of the COVID-19 in Liberia and the challenges that the current situation imposes on us.

Cuba decries at Unesco impact of blockade on Covid-19 fight

Paris, Jun 8.- Cuba denounced on Monday at the sixth extraordinary session of Unesco's Executive Board the obstacle that the United States blockade represents to its efforts to deal with the Covid-19.

The pandemic highlights the enormous restrictions imposed by the United States with its economic, commercial and financial siege, which constitutes the main obstacle to access to the necessary medicines, materials and health equipment, said Oscar Leon, the island's representative to the Council, at the virtual forum.
