Henry Reeve medical contingent deployed in Togo to fight COVID 19 returns

Havana, August 6, 2020.- The contingent of the Henry Reeve Brigade that served at the Lomé Commune Regional Hospital Center, in Togo, returned to Cuba on Wednesday after three months of confronting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Upon their arrival at the José Martí International Airport in Havana the team was received by video conference by Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, who conveyed to the internationalists the gratitude and pride they represent for the country's top leadership and for the people in general.

Pretoria, August 6, 2020.- Today is a very sad day for South Africa and Cuba. We mourn the passing of a great revolutionary and patriot, a man of principle, a stalwart of the anti Apartheid liberation struggle, a true friend of the Cuban Revolution, Comrade John Nkadimeng.
He was the first Ambassador of liberated South Africa to Cuba, and one of the first promoters of the great cooperation program on health between our two countries.

Monrovia, July 26, 2020 - President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez congratulated their respective Liberian counterparts on the occasion of the 173rd anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence of this West African nation.

Díaz-Canel extended cordial congratulations to the President of Liberia, George Manneh Weah.

A similar message was sent by the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs to Liberian Foreign Minister Gbehzohngar Milton Findley on the occasion of this nation's Independence Day.

Cuba awards Friendship Medal to Harry Belafonte

Havana, July 24, 2020 -- The President of the Republic of Cuba, at the request of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), has awarded the Medal of Friendship to  US  musician, actor, social activist and friend of Cuba, Harry Belafonte,  the Cuban Ambassador to the United States, Jose Ramon Cabañas, said on Twitter.

The Ambassador described Belafonte as an icon of American culture, a friend of the Island, and its Revolution, and thanked him for his solidarity and his art.

Cuban Embassy in Liberia remembers Mandela on his 102nd birthday

Monrovia, July 18, 2020 - To honor this icon of the struggle against apartheid and his selfless contribution to humanity, the Cuban Embassy in Liberia enjoyed a screening of the documentary "Mandela and Fidel".

Mandela became the first democratically elected president of South Africa in 1994. He led the country in starting a multiracial establishment. He ended his work as president in 1999, after completing his term and refusing to serve a second term.
