Cuba and CDEMA sign Regional Collaboration Agreement on Early Warning Systems in the Caribbean

The Chief of Operations of the Main National State of Civil Defense, William Cedeño Centeno signed this Friday, a Collaboration Agreement with the Caribbean Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) for the continuity of Cuba’s work on subjects related to disaster risk management and the strengthening of Early Warning Systems in the region.

Helsinki, January 22, 2019. Thousands of Finns and visitors from different latitudes, along with exhibitors from 80 countries and travel agents from all continents, had the opportunity to approach the attractive options and multiple benefits offered by Cuba as a safe travel destination during the international tourism fair MATKA 2019. Considered the largest event in this sector in northern Europe, MATKA 2019 took place between 17 and 20 January at the fairground "Messukeskus" in this capital.

On January 16, 2019, the US State Department announced the decision to suspend, only for 45 days, the implementation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, “in order to conduct a careful review …in light of the national interests of the United States and the efforts  to expedite a transition to democracy in Cuba, and include factors such as  the Cuba’s regime’s brutal oppression of human rights and fundamental freedoms and its indefensible support for increasingly authoritarian and corrupt regimes in Venezuela and Nicaragua.”
