Mr. Chairman,

We are facing a highly complex and dangerous international scenario, where multilateralism and international cooperation, essential for overcoming challenges such as extreme poverty, hunger, illiteracy, unemployment and climate change, are being undermined by the aggressive and unilateral behavior of a few countries with hegemonic pretensions.

The United Nations Development System is undergoing an ambitious reform process, at the threshold of the upcoming QCPR, which requires the effective implementation of the mandates undertaken in resolutions 71/243 and 72/279 of the General Assembly.

The achievements of UNICEF and its work over the past year in implementing the Strategic Plan 2018-2021 and the rest of the Organization's programme documents are commendable. These results continue to demonstrate UNICEF's commitment to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the promotion of the well-being of the world's children, particularly those still living in extreme poverty.
