The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare the inequalities of the world we live in and the vulnerability of persons with disabilities. In this context, we reaffirm our commitment to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The delegation of Cuba would like to thank you for your good offices in the holding of this plenary meeting.
We also thank the Secretary-General for his efforts in preparing the latest Report on the Responsibility to Protect, on which we will make some observations.

At the outset, I would like to reiterate our appreciation to UN-Women for the efforts throughout these challenging times. UN-Women has been a strong voice for addressing the socio-economic consequences of COVID-19 on the life of women and girls around the world, and the integration of a gender perspective in the response to and recovery from the pandemic.

In addition to its impact on the lives of millions of people, the COVID-19 pandemic is causing serious socio-economic consequences for all countries, jeopardizing the achievements earned in terms of sustainable development, including health.
