76 UNGA: Statement by the Cuban delegation under Item 86 “Scope and application of the principle of universal jurisdiction”. New York, 21 October 2021

Mr. Chairman,

Cuba endorses the remarks delivered by the Islamic Republic of Iran on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement.

We take note of the Secretary-General´s Report, prepared on the basis of the commentaries and observations made by Member States, contained in document A/76/203.

Cuba reiterates its steadfast commitment to the fight against impunity for crimes against humanity.

Mr. Chairman;

We endorse Indonesia's statement on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Cuba reiterates its commitment to general and complete disarmament, in particular nuclear disarmament.

We attach great importance to the regional and subregional initiatives in this field, including the establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones.

Statement by the delegation of Cuba at the Segment on Permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources.

 

Madam Chair,

Cuba endorses the statement delivered by the distinguished delegation of the Republic of Guinea on behalf of the G77 and China.

Mr. Chairman,

Treaties are the primary sources of international law and the cornerstone of rules-based international relations. They are also a more direct and formal method of international law creation. The United Nations system has played a critical role in ensuring the transparency of the treaties concluded by its Member States.

Mr. Chairman,

We appreciate the work carried out by the International Law Commission in order to present draft articles on this topic.

Cuba is a historic defender of the respect for international law and its principles, especially international criminal law.

We take this opportunity to congratulate His Excellency, Mr. Abdulla Shahid, on his election as President of the General Assembly at its seventy-sixth session, for which he can count on the full support of my delegation.

We take note of the Secretary-General’s report entitled “Our Common Agenda”, and his presentation at the plenary meeting on 10 September.

My delegation endorses the statement delivered by the Islamic Republic of Iran on behalf of NAM.

The Government of Cuba reiterates its unavoidable commitment to promote and strengthen a genuine rule of law, which will contribute to change the current unjust international order.

We take note of the report of the Secretary-General on this item, contained in document A/76/235.
