Statement by Shri M. Hamid Ansari, hon’ble Vice President of India on the passing away of Fidel Castro

I am profoundly saddened at the passing away of Commander Fidel Castro of Cuba, a heroic figure and an influential personality on the world stage.

In his death, the people of Cuba have lost the architect of their revolution and the developing countries of the world a champion of equality and justice.

He was a dear friend of India, and would continue to be remembered here, particularly for his role in the Non-Aligned Movement. I had the privilege of meeting him during my visit to Havana in October 2013.

Remembering Fidel Castro: President Pranab Mukherjee Pays Tribute

President Pranab Mukherjee delivered a speech on Saturday as he paid tribute to Former Cuban President Fidel Castro, who died on Friday night.

“I’m deeply sad to learn of Former Cuban President Fidel Castro's demise,” said the President.

Fidel Castro led a rebel army to improbable victory in Cuba, embraced Soviet-style communism and defied the power of 10 US presidents during his half century rule. The Former President also shared a good relationship with India as he was close to Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.

Funeral Honors to the Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz

On the occasion of the demise of the Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba declares nine days of national mourning, from 06:00 hours on November 26 to 12:00 hours of December 4, 2016. 

During the period of the National Mourning will cease the activities and public shows, the national flag will wave at half mast on public buildings and military facilities. The radio and television will maintain historical, patriotic, and informative programming.

Vice President of India ratifies the support of his country in the legitimate demand of Cuba in favor of lifting the blockade.

New Delhi, 25 October 2016. From 23 to 24 of this month was held in the capital of India an International Conference entitled "Focus Latin America: the Need for an Effective Program," which was sponsored by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA ) with the participation of a group of personalities, academics and former diplomats from Latin America and India to propose ways to approach the Indian subcontinent to Latin America and the Caribbean.

 

Cuban ambassador highlikes the effect of the blockade at the National Cultural Festival of Indian People’s Theatre Association.

The Guests of Honors at the opening ceremony in the city of Indore in Madhya Pradesh state were the Ambassadors of Cuba and Venezuela, who presented the cultural development of their respective countries.

Mumbai, India September 30, 2016.- In response to an invitation by the organizers of the VII Jagran Film Festival, Marileydis Dueñas Morales, Deputy Chief of Mission and counsellor at the Embassy of Cuba in India attended the awards ceremony (applicable only to Indian movies) in the seventh Jagran film Festival. This activity was held in the city of Mumbai, on 30 September, where Cuba was elected this year the country focu.

Foreign Ministries of Cuba and India developed positive bilateral talks.

New Delhi, September 2nd 2016.- On the occasion of the visit to India by the Secretary (Regional) of Bilateral Affairs of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, from 30 August to 1st September for bilateral talks, was carried out an intense work program  and other visits organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India and the Embassy of Cuba in this country.

The National Committee of Solidarity with Cuba in India celebrated the 90th birthday of Fidel with Joy.

New Delhi, 13 August 2016. With a large representation of leaders and members of Indian solidarity, teachers and university students, friends and diplomats, the National Committee of Solidarity with Cuba, in coordination with the Embassy of Cuba held a commemoration especially in the auditorium of Ghalib Institute, in honor of the 90th birthday of the Commander in Chief and the 63rdAnniversary of the attack on the Moncada Barracks.

The birthday celebration of the Commander in Chief was held in Indore, the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

Indore, August 13, 2016. Vineet Tiwari, General Secretary of the Association of Progressive Indian Writers from the state of Madhya Pradesh, along with other leaders of political organizations, women's, labor, academic and other members of solidarity with Cuba India, gathered to pay tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution. The assembled gathering celebrated the 90th birthday of Fidel Castro Ruz in an enthusiastic activity where they projected videos, songs and poems about the life and work of the Commander in Chief.
