Cuba rejects U.S. decision to incarcerate migrants in the Guantanamo Naval Base
Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Cuba rejects the decision announced by the President of the United States to use the Guantanamo Naval Base to imprison tens of thousands of migrants he has proposed to forcibly expel. It is a demonstration of the brutality with which that government is acting to supposedly correct problems created by the economic and social conditions of that country, the government's own management and its foreign policy, including hostility towards countries of origin.
Assistant Director General of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry receives the Ambassador of Cuba
Kuwait, January 23: The Cuban Ambassador to Kuwait, Alain Perez Torres, was received by Mr. Firas M. Al Oda, Assistant Director General of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In the exchange, both parties highlighted the opportunities for cooperation between the chambers of commerce of both countries. Likewise, the Cuban diplomat highlighted the business and investment opportunities in Cuba.
The United States takes steps in the right direction, but the blockade remains in force.

On January 14, 2025, the government of the United States announced the following decisions:
1. Remove Cuba from the State Department list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism;
2. Make use of the presidential faculty to prevent US courts from taking action with regards to lawsuits that might be filed by virtue of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act; and
In the spirit of the Ordinary Jubilee of the Year 2025, the Cuban Government releases persons who are serving prison sentences.

As part of the close and fluid relations with the Vatican, the Government of Cuba has remained in touch with Pope Francis and his representatives and, as has occurred in the past, has kept His Holiness informed about the processes of review of the convictions and the release on imprisoned person, a practice that is common in our judicial system and has characterized the humanitarian record of the Revolution.
