Geneva, 5 October. The Human Rights Council today adopted a resolution proposed by Cuba, together with other countries, renewing for three years the mandate of the Working Group on the rights of peasants and other people working in rural areas.

During the debate on the proposal, Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson highlighted the importance of the Working Group in disseminating and ensuring the effective implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Peasants, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2018.

Geneva, October 8. The Human Rights Council concluded its 2026 sessions with a very positive overall assessment and significant results for Cuba.

This UN body holds three sessions each year. The last session took place from September 7 to October 7 and was marked by the Cuban delegation’s intensive and wide-ranging activities.

We recall the Barbados bombing with sorrow and solidarity. On October 6, 1976, a bomb destroyed a Cubana de Aviación aircraft in mid-flight, claiming the lives of 73 innocent people, including 24 young athletes from Cuba’s national fencing team who were returning after proudly competing for their country. This act of terrorism—one of the most heinous committed in the Caribbean—stands as irrefutable proof that Cuba has been a victim of terrorism, not a sponsor of it.

The Saint Lucia–Cuba Friendship Association, declare the following:

We reject Cuba’s inclusion on the List of State Sponsors of Terrorism. We reiterate that Cuba poses no threat to any country in the world. Its people have been victims of terrorist acts, sabotage, biological attacks, and an economic blockade that has lasted for more than six decades. Cuba’s inclusion on that list is a political act—unjust and lacking legal basis—that contradicts historical truth and exacerbates the suffering of the Cuban people.

Harare, October 7, 2026 – S. Mateta, Director of Bilateral Trade and Diaspora at Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, met today with Cuban Ambassador Susellys Pérez Mesa to discuss ways to boost ties between the two countries.

The Cuban Head of Mission briefed Mateta on the 176 economic transformations recently approved by her country, particularly the 46 measures related to the external sector. She also outlined the new legal regulations implementing these measures, which are designed to facilitate national development, including foreign investment.

We thank the delegation for the presentation of draft resolution L.35.

Transitional justice requires a comprehensive and balanced approach to its fundamental pillars: truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-recurrence. The specific circumstances of each case must always be duly taken into account. There can be no one-size-fits-all approach.

The ultimate goal of transitional justice should be to contribute to achieving reconciliation and peace, while at the same time guaranteeing the rights and dignity of victims.

United Nations, New York, October 6, 2026. – Cuba denounced before the Third Committee of the 81st United Nations General Assembly that the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States compounded by the energy siege  and the secondary sanctions, have a particularly serious impact on Cuba’s women and girls.

United Nations, New York, October 6, 2026. – Cuba denounced before the Second Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations that the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States has reached unprecedented levels, while the energy siege against the country qualifies as a collective punishment which intentionally hinders access to fuel and directly affects the living conditions of the Cuban people.
