Raúl receives U.S. Congressional delegation

Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, President of Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers, yesterday afternoon received a delegation from the United States Congress, led by Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont).

The group also included two other Democratic Senators, Ron Wyden from Oregon and Gary Peters from Michigan, and House Representatives James McGovern (D-Massachusetts) and Susan Davis (D-California).

Affairs of interest to both countries were discussed during the meeting.

Cuba and The Bahamas explore modalities to increase the academic and student exchange

NASSAU, February 21, 2018.- This morning, the Ambassador of Cuba to The Bahamas, Ismara Vargas Walter, held an exchange with Dr. Pandora Johnson, Vice President of International Relations at the University of The Bahamas and Jacob Dyer Spiegel, Director of Global Programs and Internationalization at that institution.

President of the Peace Council of Guyana highlights the importance of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace

Georgetown, February 20, 2018. The Ambassador of Cuba, Narciso Reinaldo Amador Socorro, attended the re-launching of the Guyana Peace Council, which took place in the Red House, headquarters of the Cheddi Jagan Research Center.

During his speech at the event, the President of the Council of Peace of Guyana, Clement Rohee, stressed the importance of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, adopted by the heads of State and Government of that region, in occasion of the II Summit of CELAC, held in Havana, on 28 and 29 January 2014.

On the other hand, the former president of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Donald Ramotar, referred to the friendship between Cheddi Jagan and Fidel Castro Ruz and to the essential contribution of both leaders to the historical bonds of brotherhood, solidarity and cooperation existing among the peoples of Guyana and Cuba. Ramotar also highlighted Cheddi Jagan's firm position of rejection of the United States blockade against Cuba.

Press Release: Cuba begins its participation in the negotiations for the adoption of the Global Compact on Migration.

New York, February 20, 2018. With the broad participation of delegations, the first phase of intergovernmental negotiations for the adoption of the Global Compact for safe, orderly and regular migration began at the UN headquarters in New York.

The Cuban delegation to this segment is headed by expert Margarita Valle, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ambassador of Cuba to the Republic of The Gambia, Lázaro Herrera Martínez was received at the State House by Dembo Bojang, United Democratic Party National President and Special Adviser to the President of the Republic.

During the meeting, which took place in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, both interlocutors expressed their willingness to work for the strengthening of bilateral ties in all spheres.

Musical group "María Alejandra y Cubanía" has great success in The Bahamas

Nassau, February 20th, 2018. - The musical group "María Alejandra y Cubanía" was invited to perform at the "Cuban Night", an event celebrated in Lyford Cay, Bahamas, on February 17th and 18th.

The members of the music band delighted the attendees with a varied repertoire of Cuban and Latin American popular music. The contagious rhythms that they played put the audience of different ages and nationalities to dance. It’s worth to note that their stage presence and performance were outstanding.
