Cuba rejects inclusion in US blacklist about human trafficking.

The US government this week included Cuba in its blacklist of countries that do not do enough to combat human trafficking, a measure that can lead to the imposition of coercive measures. The President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, denounced this accusation to which he catalogs of immoral, deceitful and perverse. He considers it a US slander that attacks Cuban medical collaboration, an example of solidarity, humanity and noble and legitimate cooperation among the countries of the South.

CUBA, June 21, 2019-First Vice President of Cuba, Salvador Valdes Mesa, met in Geneva with the Secretary general of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), George Mavrikos, within the scope of the annual Conference of the International Organization of Labour (ILO).
During the sustained exchange, Valdes Mesa and Mavrikos tried on the situation of the trade union movement in the world and the traditional solidarity stance of the WFTU with Latin America, in particular towards Cuba and Venezuela.

On June 20, 2019, the US State Department added Cuba to the lowest tier in its 2019 Trafficking in Persons Report. The Report claims that “Cuba does not fully meet the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking and is not making significant efforts to do so.”

Statement by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba: The United States has no authority to judge Cuba’s performance against trafficking in persons.

This ranking has conceivably nothing to do with Cuba’s true performance in actively combating trafficking in persons and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs absolutely rejects it for being a complete slander.
