Ambassador of Cuba attends the State Opening of Parliament.

Wellington, December 6. Ambassador Edgardo Valdés attended the official opening ceremony of the 54th Parliament of New Zealand, on which occasion he greeted the Governor General, the new Prime Minister, and the Speaker.

The Cuban diplomat also spoke with the Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Winston Peters.

The Ambassador reiterated to local authorities Cuba's willingness to strengthen our ties with New Zealand.

During the ceremony, the Governor General read the speech prepared by the Prime Minister, in which he set out his government's priorities.

Wellington, July 27. At dawn today, at the invitation of the Speaker of Parliament, the Right Honorable Adrian Rurawhe, Ambassador Edgardo Valdés attended the ceremony to unveil Te Kāhui Mōuri (the clan of vitality).

This work acknowledges Parliament's commitment to a genuine partnership between Maori and the Crown.

During the event, the ambassador exchanged with the speaker, Foreign Minister  Honorable Nanaia Mahuta and other authorities.

Reelected Díaz-Canel President of the Republic of Cuba.

Havana, April 19. The new Cuban Parliament met today to elect its leadership, in addition to electing the Council of State and the President and Vice President of the Republic, among other important positions.

Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez was re-elected as President, to guide the Cuban people for the next five years.

Addressing those present, he said: "The 470 people who make up this Assembly did not win by having more money or by representing a certain political party, each one of us is here to defend the interests of the majority."

 

Cuban Ambassador participates in events for International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Wellington, January 27. Ambassador Edgardo Valdés participated today in the events for the UN International Holocaust Remembrance Day, in this city.

In the Makara Cemetery, together with the Mayor, H.W Tory Whanau, and the Member of Parliament, the Honorable Grant Robertson, attendees listened to stories and testimonies and placed stones on the monument in honor of the victims of the Holocaust.

Later, in Parliament, Robertson stressed the importance of building hate-free societies and remembering the tragedy, so it doesn't happen again.

 

Cuban Ambassador meets with Co-President of the Parliamentary Friendship Group.

New Plymouth. November 22. Ambassador Edgardo Valdés met with Angela Roberts, Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Latin America and the Caribbean of New Zealand, with whom he spoke extensively about Cuba, its foreign policy and the prospects for exchange between both Parliaments.

Roberts expressed interest in visiting Cuba in the future.

Wellington, November 26. Cuban Ambassador Edgardo Valdés attended the official opening ceremony of the 53rd Parliament.

On that occasion, he exchanged with the Governor-General, Her Excellency the Right Honorable Dame Patsy Reddy, and with the Prime Minister, the Right Honorable Jacinda Ardern, whom he congratulated on her victory in the elections and wished her success in her tenure.

Cuba and New Zealand share important coincidences on many issues on the international agenda.
