Cuban Ambassador participates in the commemoration of ANZAC Day.

Wellington, April 25. In the company of other members of the Diplomatic Corps and local authorities, among other attendees, Ambassador Edgardo Valdés attended the official ceremony for ANZAC Day, a New Zealand national date that pays tribute to "the contribution and suffering of those who have served".

At the ceremony, attended by the Governor General, Her Excellency the Rt Hon Dame Cindy Kiro, the Ambassador laid a wreath on behalf of the Government and people of Cuba.

 

The Embassy of Cuba and the Caribbean Council hold the "Second Annual Cuba/New Zealand Dialogue".

Wellington, April 22. Sponsored by the Caribbean Council, the "Second Annual Cuba/New Zealand Dialogue" was held at the Cuban Embassy.

The President of the Council, Karim Dickie, gave the opening remarks, after which Ambassador Edgardo Valdés recalled the importance of the Victory of Girón (Bay of Pigs) in the history of Cuba and addressed the internal situation of the island, relations with the United States, links with New Zealand and business and investment opportunities in Cuba, in addition to other aspects of the international scene.

Vice President of "World Beyond War" visited the Embassy of Cuba.

Wellington, April 19. Ambassador Edgardo Valdés and First Secretary Dalila Vázquez met at the Embassy with Liz Remmerswaal, Vice President of "World Beyond War", who visited us with her husband.

We had an interesting exchange on the international situation and cooperation in defense of peace between Cuban and New Zealand organizations.

We established avenues for cooperation between ICAP and "World Beyond War", an organization dedicated to the search for peace.

 

We celebrated the anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the Cook Islands.

Wellington, December 7. A joint celebration organized between the Cuban Embassy and the High Commissioner of the Cook Islands, H.E. Elizabeth Wright-Koteka, marked 19 years of friendly diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In the presence of Ambassadors and High Commissioners from the Pacific and Latin America, as well as representatives of the local Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Cuban Ambassador reiterated Cuba's willingness to continue cooperating with the islands.

Wellington, December 3. Friends of Cuba in Wellington attended a party at the Embassy to celebrate the return to normality after a year of great difficulties, in which there was no lack of support for the Revolution.

The Ambassador thanked those present, and through them all the friends who in New Zealand support our cause.

Representatives from unions, the Communist Party, cultural projects, and academic institutions shared ideas and a pleasant evening with lots of music and dancing.

 

Cuban diplomats visit the city of Whanganui.

Whanganui, November 19. During a visit to this city, Ambassador Edgardo Valdés had a friendly meeting with Mayor H.W Hamish Mc Douall, with whom he exchanged on the situation in Cuba, the relationship with New Zealand and other topics of interest.

McDouall praised the Cuban film "Inocencia", shown here recently in the framework of the Latin America and Spain Film Festival.

Several ideas for cultural cooperation and the promotion of tourism to Cuba emerged from the meeting.

The Mayor of Wellington visits the Cuban Residence.

Wellington November 17. The Mayor of Wellington, H.W Andy Foster, and his wife Ann were received by the Cuban Ambassador and his wife at the Cuban Residence.

In addition to enjoying a typical Cuban dinner, they exchanged extensively about the situation in Cuba and the relationship between the City Council and the Diplomatic Corps.

The meeting was also attended by Nina Obermaier, Ambassador of the European Union, and her husband Stephan.
