CAL makes triumphant first trip to Cuba
Caribbean Airlines landed at the Jose Marti airport in Cuba ten minutes ahead of schedule on Saturday morning as it made its first flight to the Spanish island.
As the inaugural flight taxied down the runway to applause from its passengers, it received welcoming showers of water sprayed on either side of the plane.

Cuban activist calls on Caribbean people to unite
Paying tribute to Cuba’s legendary leader the late Fidel Castro, International Relations Officer of the Cuban Communist Party Jose Ramon Balaguer Cabrera has called on Caribbean people to unite.
Giving an insight on Castro’s life during a seminar hosted by the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union in San Fernando on Tuesday, Balaguer said people could not study the 20th century and the present millennium, without the thought and work of Castro.

Cuba’s special bond with T&T celebrated
The Cuba Embassy here in the Trinidad and Tobago celebrated Cuba-Caricom Day on Tuesday. The day celebrates the historic and traditional relations between Cuba and several Caribbean countries, as well as the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Trinidad and Tobago. Following is the speech delivered by Cuban Ambassador Guillermo Vázquez Moreno during the event.
Today marks a very important and significant day for regional integration; Cuba-Caricom Day. On this date in 1972, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Guyana and Jamaica established diplomatic relations with Cuba, an action which can be considered as the beginning of the end of Cuba’s isolation. With this in mind, it is my great pleasure and true honour to express my commemorative greetings on behalf of the government of the Republic of Cuba and the peoples of Cuba on this occasion of Cuba-Caricom Day.

It is indeed an honour and a pleasure to extend, on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, and on my own behalf, greetings on this occasion of the Forty-fifth (45th) Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba on December 08, 1972.
Four and a half decades after that historic event, it behooves me to mention that in October 1972, at the conclusion of the Seventh Heads of Government Conference of Commonwealth Caribbean Countries held in Port of Spain, the Prime Ministers of Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago issued a Statement which in part read as follows:
“The independent English-speaking Caribbean States, exercising their sovereign rights to enter into relations with any other sovereign States and pursuing their determination to seek regional solidarity and to achieve meaningful and comprehensive economic cooperation amongst all Caribbean countries, will seek the early establishment of relations with Cuba, whether economic or diplomatic or both."
