New York, 2 August 2017.
Thanks Mr. President,
We consider of great importance the work carried out by the working group on Global Geospatial Information Management. In this sense:
The Caribbean Project, promoted by UN-GGIM Americas, has worked in the strengthening of the capacities of member countries on geospatial management, with traditional focus and palpable results.
However, we are of the opinion that during the latest years efficient and effective innovative methods of acquisition, processing, analysis and dissemination of the information have developed, which should support the 2030 Agenda goals for sustainable development. Those methods are based on technologies like cloud computing, remote perception, geospatial sensor proliferation and others.
We considered that is necessary to identify the material sources to guarantee the continuity of these training programs. It is also required to explore channels to facilitate our countries’ access to these innovating technologies, focused on geospatial information management.
Thank you very much.
