Dear friends, brothers and sisters in solidarity with the struggle of the Cuban people,
On behalf of the delegation participating in the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, I extend warm greetings and gratitude for your support of Cuba in this long struggle to end the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the US government on our people for more than 60 years, and to reverse the arbitrary inclusion of Cuba on the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
The maximum pressure policies imposed by the United States government during these years have not prevented the progress achieved in society in terms of equality, inclusion and social protection.
Thirty years after the Fourth World Conference on Women and the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, Cuba has reaffirmed its commitment to equality and women´s empowerment in society, as confirmed by their high levels of participation in the different sectors.
Friends of Cuba,
In 66 years, it has never been easy, and if we have endured, if we are still here, it has not been by divine action. The key lies in the condition of unity of the people and their women, who make heroic deeds out of the daily challenges imposed by the current context, worsened by that brutal rhetoric as the main obstacle to the country´s development.
The year 2024 was a huge challenge for Cuba against the adversities: we had cyclones, earthquakes, disconnects in the National Electric Grid, insufficient power generation capacity, high prices, difficulties in meeting the standard family basket, lack of fuel, transportation issues and medicine shortages; issues that have a significant impact on Cuban women and families.
However, in all these past years, Cuban women have been an example of resilience and patriotism, demonstrating that no goal is impossible when we join forces and defend the same ideals with justice.
In this intense struggle, we have counted on the undeniable support of the solidarity from thousands of friends who all over the world and in the United States have denounced the injustices, lies and manipulations of successive U.S. administrations in slander campaigns, being the most recent against our healthcare system and medical cooperation, a force that has rendered services in 56 countries on almost every continent and is more than 60 percent women.
Dear friends,
Uniting in defense of the Cuban Revolution to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade is undoubtedly an act of love and commitment to a country that has been an example of solidarity and love and maintains that firm conviction no matter how hard times can be.
Thank you
