Bruselas, 18 de noviembre de 2025.- La Embajada de la República de Cuba en el Reino de Bélgica traslada su sorpresa y decepción luego del anuncio del Gobierno belga de proceder al cierre de su Embajada en La Habana.
Dicha decisión no se corresponde con las históricas y positivas relaciones existentes entre ambos países, mantenidas de manera ininterrumpida durante más de ciento veinte años, durante los cuales ambas naciones han consolidado estrechos vínculos culturales, académicos, científico técnicos, consulares, económicos y de cooperación, sustentados en un diálogo respetuoso, que ha trascendido el ámbito bilateral y ha contribuido al fortalecimiento de la relación entre Cuba y la Unión Europea.
La decisión de cerrar la representación diplomática belga en La Habana, contrasta también con el interés expresado por las autoridades de Bélgica de profundizar sus vínculos con América Latina y el Caribe, considerando la vocación de Cuba a favor de la concertación, cooperación y unidad en la región dentro de su diversidad.
Aspiramos a que, un paso de esta envergadura, no conlleve al deterioro de los vínculos de larga data entre instituciones, empresarios, hombres de ciencia, de la cultura y entre los muchos amigos que se han establecido entre ambos pueblos.
Asimismo, reiteramos la aspiración de que Bélgica continúe desempeñando un papel constructivo en el desarrollo de las relaciones entre Cuba y la Unión Europea, en el marco del Acuerdo de Diálogo Político y Cooperación vigente desde 2017.
Agradecemos al pueblo belga, a los amigos solidarios y a la comunidad residente por el apoyo recibido, con la certeza de que continuaremos trabajando juntos

Statement from the Cuban Embassy in the Kingdom of Belgium
Brussels, November 18, 2025.- The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in the Kingdom of Belgium expresses its surprise and disappointment following the Belgian government's announcement that it will close its embassy in Havana.
This decision is not in line with the historic and positive relations between our two countries, which have been maintained uninterruptedly for more than 120 years, during which time both nations have consolidated close cultural, academic, scientific, technical, consular, economic, and cooperative ties, based on respectful dialogue, which has transcended the bilateral sphere and contributed to strengthening relations between Cuba and the European Union.
The decision to close the Belgian diplomatic representation in Havana also contrasts with the interest expressed by the Belgian authorities in deepening their ties with Latin America and the Caribbean, considering Cuba's commitment to consultation, cooperation, and unity in the region within its diversity.
We hope that a step of this magnitude will not lead to the deterioration of the long-standing ties between institutions, businesspeople, scientists, cultural figures, and the many friends that have been established between our two peoples.
We also reiterate our hope that Belgium will continue to play a constructive role in the development of relations between Cuba and the European Union, within the framework of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement in force since 2017.
We thank the Belgian people, our supportive friends, and the resident community for their support, with the certainty that we will continue to work together.
The Cuban Embassy reaffirms its willingness to expand, through its diplomatic work, the ties of friendship and cooperation between both nations.
