Stephanie D'Hose, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Belgium, received Yaira Jiménez Roig, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union, at the headquarters of the Federal Parliament.
During the meeting, they exchanged the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, which will celebrate the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2022. The moment was an opportunity to renew the will to continue promoting inter-parliamentary exchanges.
The President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Belgium showed interest in the gender and equality policies being developed in Cuba, mainly in the Families Code approved in 2022.
For her part, the Cuban Ambassador highlighted the social and inclusion advances developed in Cuba and reported on the impact of the U.S. blockade and the inclusion of Cuba in the spurious list of state sponsors of terrorism. In addition, Jiménez Roig gave an update on the current situation in Cuba, with emphasis on the constitution of the X Legislature of the National Assembly of People's Power and the priorities of that legislative body.
The Senate of the Kingdom of Belgium - also known as the Assembly of the Regions - is composed of 60 senators and, together with the House of Representatives, constitutes the Federal Parliament. Senator Stephanie D'Hose was appointed President of that legislative body on October 13, 2020.
