With the notes of the national anthems of Cuba and Greece, played by the Concert Band of the Municipality of Athens, the event commemorating the 172nd anniversary of the birth of the Cuban National Hero José Martí, on January 28, 1853, in Havana, began this morning.
The event, convened by the Cuban Embassy, was attended by Ambassadors and other Ibero-American diplomats, accredited in Greece. Also present were authorities from the Municipality of Athens, officials from the CC of the KKE and the Youth of the KNE, members of the José Martí Cultural Association and the Hellenic-Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity with Cuba, the Diethnes Vimas publishing house and other members of the solidarity movement, as well as Greek and Latin American citizens, friends of the Cuban people.
Following the Ambassador's words, wreaths and floral offerings were placed in front of the bust that permanently pays homage to the apostle of Cuban independence in the Ilisia neighborhood, as a simple but heartfelt tribute to his sublime life, his revolutionary thinking and his ideas, which are more relevant and present today than ever.
The Concert Band closed the event by playing the universally known Guantanamera.
