The US blockade policy continues to be a massive, flagrant and systematic violation of the human rights of the Cuban people and qualifies as an act of genocide, as stated by the 2017report which will be presented to the United Nations General Assembly next November 1st.
The damage caused by the extraterritorial laws of the blockade is detailed in the report on United Nations General Assembly resolution 71/5 entitled "Need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by States" United States of America against Cuba.
The text denounces that this policy constitutes the biggest obstacle to the implementation of the National Economic and Social Development Plan of the country, and for the overall development of all the potential of the economy.
Despite Cuba´s international campaign against the blockade and the overwelming mayority of States that voted agaisnt it at the General Asembly in 2016, it is still in force and has been for nearly six decades causing damage to the Cuban economy amounting to 822 thousand 280 million dollars, taking into account the depreciation of the dollar against the value of gold in the international market.
In addition, at current prices, the blockade has caused quantifiable damages for more than 130 thousand 178.6 million dollars and, in the period in which the report is framed, has caused losses to Cuba in the order of 4 thousand 305.4 million of dollars.
According to the document, which shows the effects of the application of the blockade between April 2016 and June 2017, this policy continues to be the main obstacle to the development of the Cuban economy and the full enjoyment of all human rights of the Cuban people.
The measures to strengthen the blockade will affect and harm not only the Cuban people but also US citizens and entities, whose possibilities to enter into business with individuals and companies in Cuba and to exercise their constitutional right to travel freely will be even more restricted.
The "Presidential Memorandum on National Security on Strengthening US Policy towards Cuba," signed on June 16 by President Donald Trump, establishes a new policy that proclaims among its main objectives to further strenghthen the blockade.
The report considers that the increasingly aggressive rhetoric against Cuba and the announced measures generate greater distrust and uncertainty in the financial institutions and the American suppliers themselves due to the fear and the real risk of being penalized for dealing with Cuba.
The text warns that the financial and extraterritorial dimensions of the law are maintained, with fines imposed on foreign companies that have commercial relations with Cuba, and the refusal or refusal of banks and international financial institutions to carry out operations with the island out of fear to the rerecutions and the fines that might be imposed on them.
The Report once again calls for the cessation of the blockade, which it calls the most unjust, severe and prolonged system of unilateral sanctions that has been applied against any country, and recalls that on 25 occasions the UN General Assembly has pronounced, by an overwhelming majority, for its removal.
The US government must completely eliminate the blockade of Cuba, unilaterally and unconditionally, in line with the overwhelming demand of the international community and the widely held opinion of many and varied voices within that northern country calling for the cessation of this unjust policy, he adds.
