Havana, Sep 17 (Prensa Latina) Emotion, stress, but above all discipline and training are some of the experiences of Brigadier General Arnaldo Tamayo, the first Cuban cosmonaut who remembers these experiences on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his trip to space.
'40 years, an anniversary that we continue celebrating. These are the results of that space flight, of the Cuban science for the experiments, the triumph of a program created by socialism and which marks the history of collaboration relations between Cuba and Russia,' Arnaldo Tamayo said on Thursday during an interview published by Juventud Tecnica magazine.
The joint mission between Cuba and the Soviet Union took off from Baikonur cosmodrome, in Kazakhstan, on September 18, 1980, with crew members Arnaldo Tamayo and Yuri Romanenko.
'There were moments of great stress, both during the take-off, flight, and landing; but psychological training gave us the possibility to overcome any fear, doubt or feeling of insecurity,' Tamayo said.
We trained for everything, except to face the lack of gravity problem in the human body, since space is a hostile environment.
